Thinking out loud…<\/h3>\n

Tomorrow \u00a0is Juneteenth\u2014The end of slavery on US soil.<\/p>\n

As a youngster, I learned about racism in the multi racial housing project I grew up in. \u00a0I learned it playing baseball in the parking lot. \u00a0I learned it jumping rope to chanting stories. \u00a0I learned it overhearing angry grownup voices using words that seared the air, I learned it from the cruel jokes those same voices told and laughed over.<\/p>\n

I am grateful that somehow I decided that fairness applied to all of us. \u00a0 All of us! \u00a0Somehow.<\/p>\n

We are a work in progress, our nation, us<\/b>. \u00a0There is work to do\u2014to examine our hearts, to tell ourselves the truth, and to remove meanness from our actions. \u00a0 And with our votes and our voices to require the same of all of our elected officials, to require the same from all people who are meant to act on our behalf\u2014whether they be police, healthcare providers, educators, \u00a0or businesses.<\/p>\n

Our union continues as a work in progress. \u00a0The dream of our nation is worth the work.<\/p>\n

I hear voices singing \u201cChange gonna come.\u201d \u00a0I\u2019m singing with them.<\/p>\n
