Thinking Out Loud,<\/h3>\n

Sometimes I just like to cut loose and try something. \u00a0Not really preparing or thinking about it a whole lot, just grab the stuff and give it a whirl. \u00a0I\u2019m not sure if this ever really works at once, but it gets me in the ball park, and the ideas begin to build on one another.<\/p>\n

So began the coffee and tea experiment. \u00a0Things in my mind: \u00a0staining (anyone can do that!), weathering fabric (yeah, I can do that), using what comes to hand (yep! \u00a0I have lots of coffee and tea), sitting back and watching what happens\u2014got it covered. \u00a0First off white sateen, poured leftover tea and coffee over, outside hanging from the line. \u00a0 Check. \u00a0Next day, repeat. \u00a0Simple experiment, pour stuff over and repeat. \u00a0Let it rain! \u00a0Only it didn\u2019t rain. \u00a0So I just kept it up.<\/p>\n

Getting a bit bored, I thought to toss some cotton Pima in a dye bath of very old Safari Grey dye. \u00a0Check. \u00a0Added soda ash at appropriate time, and rather than wash it out, just hung it on the line and proceeded to pour coffee and tea over that on a daily basis. \u00a0And wait for rain…<\/p>\n

It began to get interesting….<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Then it rained, a little bit. \u00a0Now, I fully expected the rain to wash out a lot of what I was seeing, but I wanted to see if staining had occurred and if it would \u201cstick\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Hmm, that\u2019s not too bad, let\u2019s keep going…..<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Then,<\/b>\u00a0we went away for a week, traveling, and while we were gone it rained. \u00a0A lot.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And I was back to square one…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had more staining when I mopped up a whole coffee pot spill! \u00a0But, I figured I would lose most of the color and detail, just sort of wistful that it pretty much took all<\/b>\u00a0of it. \u00a0However, along the way, it was fun, interesting, and got my brain thinking about how to get the effects I liked in a permanent way. \u00a0It was a process.<\/p>\n
