these days. \u00a0But then I remind myself that paying attention to the simple beauty of what is right in front of me can be the best way to foil that chaos for a time, and bring some comfort to my day. \u00a0So, I figure you might need to think about tomatoes too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1024\" 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the season. \u00a0This is the time to taste what a vine ripened tomato is supposed to taste like. \u00a0Get \u2018em while you can. \u00a0Enjoy the heck out of them.<\/p>\n<p>My very favorite this season is a Tomato Gratin, recipe supplied by a cracking good cooking show on PBS\u2014America\u2019s Test Kitchen. \u00a0(I\u2019d link it if I knew how to do such techy things in this blog format&#8230;) \u00a0But, anyway, a simple chop \u2018em up and mix and bake recipe that says summertime and bounty to me. \u00a0And tastes darn good too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1025\" 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have yet to get a picture of the finished gratin. \u00a0But I will keep trying!<\/p>\n<p>You can probably tell that I have rediscovered my pleasure of being in the kitchen. \u00a0In short bursts, with simple tasks, I can lose myself in contemplating zucchini pancakes, or the mysteries and history of sourdough. \u00a0In my kitchen it is alright.<\/p>\n<p>I figure we all need to find our place where it is alright, even if it is just for a moment or two. \u00a0This is my strategy\u2014to hold onto good will, decency and fairness as I navigate the times ahead. \u00a0
